After ten years of living in Boston—primarily in Back Bay and Downtown
Crossing—it felt like I had “completed Boston.”
Then I moved to New York, which is impossible to complete. The city is
always changing, so being done is never really the point.
Every street. Ariel moving through the entire city. On foot. (Walking, running, inline skating).
While I can’t metaphorically complete New York, I can technically try.
Completing New York is my attempt to travel every street and path in
Manhattan. I started on July 27, 2026.
Completing New York is one half of New York, by Ariel Diaz—a diptych about capturing the city through every street and one stroke. Its sister project, New York Stroke, distills the city into a single handmade mark.
