2x2 Matrix · Skiing

Method

Each measured column becomes a percentile rank from 0 to 100 across every area that reports it. A missing value never counts as zero. Each index averages the parts a row has, reweighted.

IndexParts (weight)

Focus is the Party index minus the Ski index, from -100 (all mountain) to +100 (all après). Intensity is 70% the stronger of the two (an area can be intense by skiing or by partying) plus 30% the inverse of the chill score. Value is the Luxury index.

On the matrix, each axis is drawn as a percentile rank and turned 45 degrees. The axes cross at the median, so each quadrant holds a similar share of areas, and position shows rank, not raw distance.

The 1 to 10 judgment scores (après, luxury, skiing intensity, chill) are calibrated worldwide. Ischgl and St Anton set après at 10. Jackson Hole and Chamonix set skiing intensity at 10. Courchevel and St Moritz set luxury at 10. They are opinions with sources, not measurements.

Prices are 2025-26 or 2026-27 peak figures converted to US dollars. Skier visits mix reported skier-days and visits. Pass membership is the 2025-26 season. Top 100 ranks areas by notability (skier visits 40%, size 30%, vertical 30%) and keeps every region in proportion, with at least eight areas each. Every row lists its sources on the data page.
